Help! There’s Hot Air Coming Out of My AC System!
Spring is the season to start using your air conditioner in Star City, AR, to ensure it’s ready for summer. However, if it starts blowing hot instead of cool air, then something isn’t working right. There are several reasons your AC system might blow hot air when you turn it on.
The Outdoor Unit Has No Power
Your air conditioner contains two different units. The indoor unit blows the air inside your home, but the outdoor unit is what actually cools the air to your desired temperature. If the outdoor unit lost its power, that would make the indoor unit just move warm air around.
There Are Obstructions Outdoors
Another potential issue with the outdoor unit is if there are obstructions present. Debris can clog the AC system, and overgrown landscaping might prevent your outdoor unit from working effectively. If it has to work harder than usual, it might overheat and create the hot air you’re feeling.
The Refrigerant Is Low
Checking refrigerant levels is a common task in routine AC maintenance because your system might lose it over time due to a leak. Your home’s AC system needs refrigerant to cool the air. Lower levels make cooling harder over time and eventually impossible.
The Ducts Are Leaking
If your home’s ductwork has a leak, then it might be big enough for warm air to wind up mixing with conditioned air. That can alter the temperature of the air coming out of your vents.
Someone Set the Thermostat Wrong
There are two things to check here. First, make sure no one in your family accidentally set the thermostat to the “Heat” setting, and second, ensure the “Fan” setting isn’t on. Both can result in warm or hot air coming through the system because the AC system isn’t even running.
These are some of the most frequent reasons for your air conditioner to blow out hot instead of cool air. Fortunately, you can have a service tech come out, diagnose and then fix the issue. Contact us at Pine Bluff Heating & Air if you need AC repair services for your home.
